What is an "accessible anthem"? For the purposes of this conference we are defining an accessible anthem as having at least two of the following traits:

1. The anthem can be sung with as few as one or two singers per voice part.

2. The anthem features repeated material that shortens and simplifies the learning process.

3. The anthem contains substantial unison sections.

With My Whole Heart: Singing Together as One

September 2022

This special event for everyone - church musicians, choir members, church leaders, congregation members—anyone who can “make a joyful noise to the Lord" took place in September.

Taught by the Rev’d John Allen Bankson, Director of Music Ministries at the First Christian Church of Birmingham, each week’s class featured a guest organist from the Birmingham area. This was a joint event of the First Christian Church of Birmingham and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, Mid-South Region.

This exciting six-week journey culminated with a Hymn Festival led by the Rev. David Gambrell, Associate for Worship in the Office of Theology and Worship of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Hymnology Course

PAM Mid-South has released a hymnology course adapted from our fall 2022 event, “Singing With My Whole Heart.”

This course combines the history of Christian hymns with basic sight-singing skills and vocal technique to help everyone engage more fully in congregational singing. The installments of this series are short (10-20 minutes in length) and can form the basis for Sunday School classes and small-group studies, or they can be used at the beginning of rehearsals.

All 20 installments are available free on the PAM Mid-South YouTube Channel.
